Scaling and Polishing
It is the a non-surgical procedure of the removal of the hardening debris that accumulates around the teeth and is harmful to the gums. This debris is referred to as plaque and calculus. The procedure consist of two parts; First the SCALING, which is the manual or mechanical removal of the debris on the tooth surface, while the second part known as POLISHING is the buffing of the tooth surface with a fluoride containing paste leaving the tooth surface clean, smooth and shinning thus making it difficult for bacteria to stick to and cause harm to the teeth and gums.
Indications For Scaling and Polishing
- 1. Ideally, this procedure should be carried out, at a minimum, twice a year as a preventive measure
- 2. Bleeding gums
- 3. As an adjunct to several gum problem as diagnosed by the Periodontologist
